Ein großer Teil der IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) beschäftigt sich mit dem Schwerpunkt Service Operation. Gerade in den Bereichen von Event-, Problem- und Incident-Management bietet der Einsatz von Nagios in Verbindung mit einem Trouble-Ticket-System wie z.B. OTRS eine Vielzahl an Einsatzmöglichkeiten. Der Vortag verdeutlicht das Zusammenspiel der diversen Komponenten und den Einsatz beim Bundesverwaltungsamt innerhalb eines Portals.

We take a look at some plugins and discuss what kind of additional useful information could be pulled out of a MySQL Server for monitoring it even better. A simple example on how to write such plugins will be shown, also using NDB API for monitoring MySQL Cluster. Now that MySQL Enterprise Monitor (MEM) is available, we'll go through the possibilities for combining the two platforms. We will also discuss the NDOUtils for storing configuration and event data using MySQL.

check_multi ist eines der ersten Plugins, die die neuen multi-line Features von Nagios 3 extensiv nutzen. Ob es um Performance-Probleme in großen Setups, flexible Konfigurationen in heterogenen Netzwerken, Delegierung der Monitoring-Konfiguration, Business Process Views oder Adaptives Monitoring geht: es gibt nur wenige Anforderungen, für die mit check_multi nicht eine überzeugende Loesung gefunden werden könnte.

This talk is divided into multiple parts, starting with a basic introduction into the popular opensource database management software postgresql. Building upon that operational aspects of a postgresql cluster instance will be discussed with a focus on what can, should and must be monitored and what kind of tools and nagios related plugins are available. The final part of the talk gives an insight into the complex and distributed nature of the postgresql.org infrastructure and how nagios plays a crucial role as the central monitoring and alerting platform for the sysadmin team.

Ton will look back over the last year to see what has been achieved in the Nagios Plugins project and discuss some of the changes planned for the future.

Eine Überwachung des MS-SQL Datenbankservers wird implementiert, hierbei wird auf die generelle Erreichbarkeit des Systems und die Auslastung eingegangen. Es wird aufgezeigt welche Performancecounter des SQL Servers unter Windows überwacht werden sollten um einen reibungslosen Betrieb zu gewährleisten. Die aus der Überwachung gewonnenen Performancedaten werden mittels NagiosGrapher dargestellt, benötigte Templates werden ebenfalls erstellt.

Der Vortrag führt in die Grundlagen von Round Robin Databases und RRDtool ein und zeigt an einigen Beispielen, wie man Daten mit RRDtool speichert und graphisch aufbereitet. Anschließend geht der Vortrag auf die Abfrage bereits vorhandener RRD-Datenbanken und deren Kopplung mit Nagios ein.

Nagios can also be used for application monitoring such as transaction monitoring within a Java virtual machine. This presentation shows how Nagios can be used to monitor various Java application services using standards such as JMX. These services provide a detailed view of heap/non-heap memory, threads etc that are only available with in each specific virtual machine. Through an example, this presentation will also show how to monitor transactions, such as financial deals processed etc, using a popular the popular open source SOA framework known as Mule.

Zwar verfügt Nagios bereits über einige Möglichkeiten des Availability Reports, diese reichen jedoch hinsichtlich SLA- Reporting und vorallem automatischer Weiterverarbeitung nicht aus. Mit Hilfe von Open Source Bi-Lösungen, lassen sich zügig individuelle Reports erstellen, welche dann automatisch an die vordefinierten Personen verteilt werden

Immer mehr große Firmen entscheiden sich beim Thema Monitoring für Nagios.Üblicherweise findet man in solchen Firmen Oracle-Datenbanken. Von Seiten Nagios gibt es bisher nur rudimentäre Ansätze. Mit dem neuen Plugin check_oracle_health soll nun die gesamte Bandbreite an Anforderungen in einem einzigen Plugin zusammengefasst werden. Es ist durch seinen modularen Aufbau in seinem Funktionsumfang stetig erweiterbar und wird damit in der geschlossenen Welt der Oracle-Datenbanken Nagios zu einer ernstzunehmenden Alternative machen.

For the last 2 years, Ton has been developing Opsview, a monitoring solution based on Nagios. During this session, he will explain some of the design decisions that were made, detail the enhancements to Nagios and reveal techniques for working with NDOUtils, that have made Opsview work in large scale environments.

Nagios plugability for notifications has let the community grow a very interesting set of contributed notification scripts. The presentation would have a look over things to take into account if you want to develop a notification script, and an overview of existing community contributed notification scripts.

Der Vortrag teilt sich in drei Bereiche: Im Rahmen des Themas Nagios-Integration wird das Zustandekommen eines Tickets mit Nagios-Notifications als Grundfunktion erläutert und eine Antwort auf die "Gretchenfrage: soll man Tickets automatisch schließen lassen?" gesucht. Der zweite Teil des Vortrages beinhaltet die Vorstellung des OTRS-Modules zum Systemmonitoring. Im dritten und letzten Teil wird ein Ausblick auf Alternativen zu Nagios-Notifications vorgenommen.

NagiosQL is one of the first and still active webbased Open Source Nagios Administration Tool for Nagios. With the upcoming 3.0 release we will introduce several new features and of course Nagios 3 compatiblity. We will go through the most important features and news about the release. For everyone interested we will provide all attendees with the current beta version one month before we go live with the final release.

Das Linux HA Projekt entwickelt mit Heartbeat2 einen Active-Active Hochverfügbarkeits-Cluster zur Überwachung von Diensten. Durch die modulare Unterstützung verschiedener Resourcen-Agenten können beliebige Programme im Falle von Systemausfall oder Fehlfunktion auf dem gleichen oder einem anderen Knoten automatisiert erneut gestartet werden. In diesem Vortrag wird der Aufbau und die Verwaltung von Heartbeat2 erklärt, die Einbindung von Nagios, und Optimierungen zur Skalierung dieses Gespanns in grossen Umgebungen.

NagiosGrapher V2 is complety rewritten from scratch. In addition to the well known flexibility and automation, it delivers a new web interface with realtime charts, user dashboards and drag and drop multigraphs.

Neben dem Monitoring betriebssystemnaher Parameter (Auslastung CPU, Memory, Plattenpartitionen) von Nachrichtensystemen, ist für den Betrieb dieser Komponenten insbesondere die generelle Funktion der Applikationen, sowie das Abgreifen von Performancedaten zB hinsichtlich Resourcenplanung wichtig. Der Vortrag geht auf Methoden ein, diese Informationen abzugreifen.

Nagios Eventbroker (NEB) Modules are an easy way to extend Nagios in a broader way than just with plugins. There are already some NEB modules available and the speech introduces them. One example is Nagios Data Out (NDO) which basically adds database support to Nagios. Another popular NEB Module is DNX which allows to distribute checks to more active check servers. In the last part of his speech, Andreas explains how easy it is to write your own NEB modules and demonstrates it with a small example Module.
